Interesting Things: A List

To celebrate the upcoming weekend (Happy Friday!) I thought I'd share with you a list of some of the ways I like to waste time on the weekends. But of course, when you are enjoying your time, it is never a waste.

Although I do love the internet and don't feel that time is wasted on it if you get something out of it and are a productive member of society, I also believe that there is a world of enjoyment outside our computer screens. We spend so much of our workweeks staring into them that I am indeed an advocate for putting our computers away for the weekend. There are books to read, movies to watch, meals to prepare and enjoy, walks and hikes to take, people to visit and naps to have.

So here it is, The List of Interesting Things:

1. I recently read The Rosie Project, which was recommended to me more than a year ago but for some reason I kept putting it off. Every time I went to get the book and read the description on the back, I didn't think I would like it. Finally, a couple of months ago, I was out of town staying with friends and I needed something for the plane ride home. Again, it came highly recommended. It took me the wait time at the airport, the plane ride and the rest of the evening at home to finish it. It was delightful!! And here I am recommending it to you, dear reader. Great way to spend this first weekend of Spring, especially given that the weather seems to be hanging on to winter in most places in Canada!

2. I woke up thinking about an old friend that I haven't spoken to or seen in much too long so I decided that I would send her a note in the mail this weekend. Although it may be obvious, I find no greater joy than to pick a card to send to a friend, take the time to write something (by hand!!) and wrap it up in a pretty, hand-decorated envelope. The trip to the post office or mailbox is such a treat! If you're feeling inclined to do the same here are three cards from my shop that are perfect for sending a 'just because' note:

3. After all these years, I am still obsessed with Sex and The City. It is the soundtrack to my life and I don't care who knows it. Rather than putting on music while working in my studio, I will often let the entire series (all six seasons) play in the background so that it feels like my girlfriends are hanging out with me. Yes. I just admitted that to you. Life can get lonely on this island when your husband works out of town a lot and you don't know that many people and you work from home and you are the only employee at your company. I digress. Came across this video this week of deleted scenes and what a treat! For all you SATC lovers:

4. Recently, I discovered the app, Elevate, which provides you with daily brain exercises to keep your brain from turning to mush. There is reading comprehension, brevity, discounting, listening, writing refinement, memory, precision, I could go on. This kind of thing is what makes me tick and I have no shame spending 30 minutes (or so) a day playing these games.

5. What better way to spend time than to cook a meal for yourself and your people and even better if it's something simple and delicious! I made this for my husband and I last night and it was divine. What's especially lovely about this recipe is that you can make it your own by adding or taking away; I added black olives and loaded on the parm when served! Enjoy!

Hope this small list adds joy to your weekend in one way or another!

Happy Friday y'all!
